Ways Preschool Will Benefit Your Child's Development

Blog

For a majority of parents, child care means either hiring a nanny for their toddler or taking their kids into daycare when they need to go to work. These two solutions help in making sure that your child is safe while you are away but neither of them is comparable to the learning provided at preschool. The main difference between enrolling your toddler in preschool instead of merely having someone watch them is that they get to learn. And although preschool is not heavily focused on academics as regular school is, it still will instil a few significant characteristics in your child. If you are wondering what type of child care will be best for your toddler, you should read on for a couple of the ways that preschool will be beneficial to your child's development.

Preschool will hone your child's cognitive development

The most fundamental cognitive skills that people have are usually learned in the toddler years. When your child is just a couple of years old, their brains are as absorbent as sponges. Hence, any information that is taught to your child is likely to be retained into their adulthood. The preschool curriculum recognises this high affinity for learning and makes the most of it when your child attends class. A few of the everyday activities that children undertake in preschool include science experiments, dancing, singing, reading and so on. Not only is their auditory and visual processing being tested, but the child is also assessed on their logic, reassigning and memory skills too.

Preschool will improve your child's social skills

Even when brought up in an environment with siblings, children still need to interact with their peers so that their social skills can develop. Some people underrate this process by assuming that everyone is born with the knowledge on how to interact with individuals, but this is inaccurate. Instead, your social skills are learned. And the best way to learn them is in an environment that is supportive and respectful. When your child starts to attend preschool, they begin to understand the value of other people.

Secondly, they will quickly learn that you need to behave appropriately around others if they are to stay interacting with you. These invisible rules of socialisation can only be learned practically, and you can be assured the preschool teachers will guide the children's' interactions so they can begin to learn conflict resolution, sharing and so on.

Creating a fun and vibrant childcare

I'm always on the lookout for new and exciting resources to liven up my childcare education program. These days, it's important that children are always learning at childcare, but it's equally important that children have fun. I like to find topics that match up with the topics that my kids are passionate about. If they are obsessed with trains, then I'm going to make sure we do a whole program on trains to keep them engaged and interested. If you are also a childcare educator or teacher who is looking for new resources for education programs, then please keep reading.
